Cui Bai was a visionary who broke the centuries-long dominance of the "Huang Style" (established by Huang Quan), which was characterized by stiff, aristocratic formality. Cui Bai introduced emotional resonance and dynamic movement into his subjects. His ability to capture the "shun" (natural spirit) of wildlife made him one of the most celebrated artists in the Imperial Painting Academy under Emperor Shenzong.

The painting features a majestic peacock standing beneath a loquat tree laden with golden fruit.
